Volunteers Needed for Our Year-End Tournament
Each year we accept nominations from the membership for the WILLARD PILATZKE MEMORIAL AWARD. This award is given each year to the player who best exemplifies the “Spirit of the League”.
If you recognize a player that meets the above definition please forward that name to the following email address pilatzkeaward@gmail.com.
The names will be compiled and there will be a ballot listing the names selected for all the membership to vote on during the year end tournament .
The Award will be announced at the Year End Banquet.
Thanks, Mike V.

Year-End Tournament
The Year-end Tournament is only a few weeks away. Here's what we have planned:
Awards
Team MVOs will be acknowledged as well as 15-year pin recipients.
Therapy
Progressive Sports Medicine will have therapists on-hand to provide massages and pointers on staying off the DL. Schedule TBD.
Food
The Black Bull Restaurant we will be providing food. Hot dogs, hamburgers, fresh cut fries, chicken wings, roast beef on a kaiser and breakfast burritos are on the menu.
Volunteers needed!
We can't pull this off without help from the membership. Volunteers are needed for the following:
- Set up Friday afternoon: This primarily entails moving materials from our storage locker, installing the bases, lining the field with chalk and setting up the "no alcohol" boundaries. Traditionally, volunteers meet at QBs at 2 p.m. The work is usually done by 5 p.m.
- Sunday evening take-down: This primarily entails packing everything up and moving it back to storage unit. This usually commences around 6 p.m.and ends at 8 p.m. The more volunteers we have, the faster it goes.
In both cases, it is very helpful to have guys with trucks, pick-up trucks or heavy duty vans that they are willing to put to use. If you can help, please contact the Tournament Director, Michael Ciccone

Nelson Swamped!

Hoping that Nelson Park can be repaired by Thursday! Wow - what a lot of damage to the park and homes there on Monday. (photo above taken Tuesday by Jeff Armour)
How to Save a Life!
August 4, 2014
The BOSL Board of Directors wanted everyone to be aware of how easy it is to use the new Defibrillators we have at the Millcroft and Nelson diamonds (the older model is at Sherwood) for BOSL players. Larry Gagnon (your current President) initiated the process of obtaining 3 replacement units for AND getting all team captains trained in how to use them. Just at the start of this season we noticed a few of the warning lights coming on the units showing time for new battery replacements. Brian Blume managed to get us these new units to replace our old ones - you just never know when it will come in handy guys! Watch this 4 minute video on how to save a life. Thanks guys for thinking of us oldtimers!!! We are lucky to have such forward-thinking people in this league!
Golf Day at Tyandaga
July 31, 2014
We are now only a few weeks away from our Golf Day at Tyandaga!! Space is filling up and
really hope that everyone(golfers and non golfers) can attend. For those who have registered but still have to pay, please pay online or give me a cheque before August 8th as we have to pay the golf course August 9th.
If anyone or their company can donate prizes for the prize table it would be very much appreciated. For those who have
already donated or said they have items(thank you), please get them to me by end of next week.
Remember, this golf day is not limited to just players of the league. Spouses, neighbuors, friends, relatives all are welcome for a fun day!! Thank you for everyone’s support for making this event possible.

Volunteers Needed for Our Friends at Special Olympics Burlington
June 1, 2014
As you all know we have a special (no pun intended) relationship with our special olympic softball friends. Cate Hawkins - Community Coordinator Special Olympics Burlington runs the program and has asked for our help. Cate is looking for seven or eight volunteer umpires (no need to be carded, Don Radke, Dale Latendresse and Scot Cameron did it a couple years ago). Having said that I know we have a lot of players in our League who are also umpires. This is a fun day!
Thanks so much for everyone's time and help in this upcoming special event!!!!
Please contact Brent Craigie or Dale Latendresse if you would like to lend a hand and try Umpiring for Burlington's Best Blues
Players Wanted ...
May 19, 2014
Gentlemen,
The season is now underway and we are dealing with slightly reduced rosters, 13 instead of the usual 14 players on most teams. We'd certainly like to go to 14 for all teams, so if you know anyone who may be interested, encourage them to contact us.
As you know, we are operating a "Pool" of replacement players from the regular membership. If you are interested, we are looking for players of all levels and positions, so that we can provide equitable replacements as required. If you want to be on the list and have not already emailed, please send a note to membership@bosl.ca.
Thanks to everyone that has already jumped into the pool.
Update on Dan Cranmer
April 15, 2014
Long-time BOSL member Dan Cranmer was moved into the Carpenter Hospice April 10th. Sadly, Dan is in the final days of his battle against cancer. His family wanted to let everyone in the BOSL know in case they wanted to visit.
The Carpenter Hospice is located at:
2250 Parkway Drive, Burlington

The Player Draft was completed April 12th... and by now you have either checked the website or been contacted by your Captains. A couple of important things that we need your help with:
Replacement Players
With rosters at 13 players, we recognize that the potential of team playing shorthanded increases, so the we want to create a replacement player pool of our current players who would be interested in playing extra games when teams have 7 or 8 players. More details to come, but for now, please email membership@bosl.ca if you are interested.
New Players
We have not stopped taking player applications for the 2014 season and hope to be able to get to 14 man rosters. We know that our current players are the best source of recruiting so please spread the word! Remember the QB's gift certificate for a referral as an added incentive!
Our Rosters are up and the Opening Stag is set for May 1, 2014 at the Legion.
Now can someone help us shovel the diamonds?

The Player Draft is coming up !!!!
The annual player draft has been set for Saturday April 12, quite a bit later than in past years.
There are a couple of things we need to communicate before the draft.
- We have eliminated “custom number” availability as we have already ordered the shirts with the start of the season so close to draft. The shirts have become a standard selection of sizes per team and we may have to order a few exceptions after the draft.
- Any player with physical restrictions that affects their ability to play specific field positions is asked to advise us with a note to membership@bosl.ca. If you have already indicated this on your registration, there is no need to email further. The same notice is requested from those anticipated to miss a number of games and/or either tournament. All of this information will assist the Captains in preparation for the draft. We will be considering ONE-TIME “same team” requests from players related by family. We cannot consider other requests and it will be up to Captains to control the composition of their teams.
Teams will be posted and Captains will be calling team members shortly after the draft as the Opening Stag is set for May 1, 2014.

BOSL 2014 Season
Gentlemen,
Despite what you see outside, ball season is approaching and the Board has been working hard to prepare for Opening Day.
We have pushed the draft date back to April 12 in an effort to go into the season with full rosters. For this reason, we will be attempting to cut off registration March 31. The fact is, new players don’t start looking for a league in February, so we have moved the dates to reflect this reality.
Please do what you can to spread the word… our new players have traditionally come through word-of-mouth… so talk it up with friends, neighbours and co-workers. There is a $20 QB’s card in it for every new member you recruit — free beer is the best beer!!
