Odds to Win the Mid-Season Tourney

June 6, 2011 - the Tipster...

The views, opinions & predictions of this prognosticator are not necessarily those of BOSL, its executive or anyone related to Mike Porkalab. Don’t take this seriously as you know I don’t… Last year at our Mid-Season Tournament, McCleary Electricdefeated Better Bitters in our 2011 Championship match and BDO bettered Jerry's Automotive to take the Consolation Championship and I am pretty sure that's what I had predicted.

Team Odds Prognostication
CBBR Coldwell Banker Burnhill
(Blue)
2/1 Both CBBR and BD have over 150 Runs For after just 9 games - leading the entire league so I don`t think it matters too much how good your defense is boys... The scary part is that both these teams are under 100 Runs Against. Tim and Jim did their homework this season picking up Shane MacPhee and Bujarski and Tim is on pace to break the all-time HR record for a season. This team gets on base and keeps their opponents off. We're all doomed.
BD Big Drum
(Orange)
2/1 It looked like CBBR would walk away with first place until Big Drum picked up their game. We all knew that Scott & Joe would do OK with Roy Jones on the team but who knew they'd pick such an all-star line-up. I predict BD will face CBBR in the final but that seems too easy doesn't it. I actually think BD is stronger than CBBR but am picking CBBR as the underdog to take it.
DC Deeth & Company
(Light Blue)
6/1 DC won't know what to do with all the sunlight. They've been doing very well despite all their late games this season so with sunglasses I think they will end up being a serious contender. The Kevins built a dynasty here with Krummenacher, McIntyre, Stewart, MacLeod and Lavery but the list doesn't seem to end. Byron seems to be back making a line-up no pitcher wants to face.
ME McCleary Electric
(Grey)
10/1 McCleary has a great team of Hall-of-Fame candidates like Rob Ferguson and Dave Little but guys like Colin Cavanagh needs to try a new bat or hit the cage before the Tournament to pick up that average. But ME has the talent and the smarts to upset. This is a darkhorse. Ron took me downtown to win their game against BB so be worried about his bat too.
JA Jerry's Automotive
(Dark Blue)
10/1 JA has the best pitching duo with Jimmy Craig and John (Bobby) Gibson. They've also got a few big hitters in the line-up like Randy Kobryn and Mike (Miiiiinnnnneeee) Horning (aka dozer). Doug and Dave hand-picked this team for character and hitting. Their 140 Runs For are very close to top of the league right now. So here we have to worry about pitching and hitting - great!
BG Battlefield Graphics
(Black)
10/1 Battlefield is strong as always. They hit deep - or at least they take MY pitches downtown. With speedsters like Johnny (Flash) Laursen and Peter (Cheetah) Oleskiw and even Captain Peter Afelskie, they can turn a single into a triple before you get it into the infield. Watch out for the bats of Agostinho, Andersen, Big Brent and Dan Conn - just go as far back to the fence as possible.
CM Carline Muffler
(Blue)
14/1 Carline has a strong team this year. Off to a great start I think they had a few players not showing up recently adding to their current slide. I'm confident even if they aren't that things will turn around in their favour for the tourney and I think CM is a favourite for the Consolation championship. Tom Clancy and Super Mario are tough to hit and the two Gregs have put together a good lineup of hitters here.
CST CST Marketing
(Purple)
20/1 Dale and Don's CST Marketing team is just a glimmer of their former glory. I think they must have given up too much to acquire Porkolab this season. Either that or Mike can't hit wearing purple. Maybe there's a green bandana you can wear under your hat to get back in the race Mike. Actually I thought CST was a HR-hitting team - boy was I wrong. Maybe we gave them the wrong team bats for this season. With nothing going right - they are still up at 20/1 because they have potential. Call another team meeting guys - at Corbett's.
GT Gator Ted's
(Grey)
25/1 Oh that's what's missing from CST's lineup - John (Boog) Bowers. The two Mikes did very well to pick Johnny up and make themselves an instant contender. With greats like McSpadden, Fortin, Mann and Veres, they should do very well here. Remember when GT was where RONA is now? What a turn-around. Can anyone hit Dan Cramner?
DD Door Dudes
(Maroon)
40/1 Well any team with Scott Daniels on it won't finish last. Who can argue that this team has some of the greatest people in our league with Bill Goodwin, Ron Fuller, Tom Moffat and Rob McCombe. And with the strength of the Cool-Lartigue brothers along with Rothwell and Elliott they are a fearsome group of hitters. I'd have added Monty in there too but he's in another slump.
RONA RONA
(Blue)
50/1 I don't seriously think that RONA will finish ahead of any of the teams shown below here - Just wanted to see if you're reading this. I don't want to show the actual odds RONA have to win the Consolation round. Let's just look at the positive here. Moose can hold up a bat and still hit it just over the infield... Barry and Joe are excellent fielders and probably lead the team in OBA. It's just great to see Moose out with everyone!
MC Mortgage Centre
(White)
65/1 I forget now but I think Mark and Graeme picked up the one-man-wrecking-machine Mike Gibbs as their fourth or fifth rounder and he's proved to be worthy of a first round pick. No surprize really but anything hit to the outfield is likely going to be snapped up by Gibbs. I didn't think big guys could move that fast. And I don't think many of us can hit Mark's pitching very well. These two guys are enough to make them a dark horse for Consolation finals.
GLH Great Lakes Hydraulics
(Red)
75/1 Why isn't GLH doing better than they are? Derek and Lee built a super-star team and they have this huge OBA potential. Big Dave Rihbany and Randy Dake can hit them out of any park. I don't get it. GLH deserves much better in the standings - they could surprize us.
BB Better Bitters
(Green)
80/1 Do I think my own team won't be a contender? At best I think we will win a couple games in the tournament and end up in the consolation round. Everyone is hitting and Andy McDonnell has turned a couple triple plays this season so there are highlights. We just need to string a few hits together - right now our Runs For are fourth in the entire league. Lets hope all the stars are aligned.
JJ Judge & Jury
(Red)
100/1 This is simple really. Every season we have a couple of Captains that draft a team all around the players attendance at QBs and this is that team this season. Middle of the road in Runs For and not the worst Runs Against but batting 1000 at QBs no doubt. I guess FUN has its price.
BOHC BOHC
(Dark Blue)
200/1 BOHC has the highest Runs Against in the league currently and that usually tells us something is wrong. Rick Fox usually bats 1000 and Darryl Ford usually hits it outta the park. They also have Chad Blackmore and Mike Drexler... something must be wrong with the stats ! Clearly this team should be in 4th or 5th place right now. Maybe this team needs to go see our BOSL massage therapists Denise Semple & Assoc. Can't think of anything else they need.

Volunteers NEEDED for our BOSL Slo-Pitch Tournament! We need a few good men to step up and help us out for the Tournament - Please contact Larry Gagnon, Tournament Director for help on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday!
