Year-End Tournament - Thanks everyone & Congratulations!
Congratulations to Chris Burr and Todd Parker and to Larry Gagnon and Scot Cameron and your teams on your well-deserved championships! Welcome to the Hall of Fame. Hey Todd: NICE!!
In addition to congratulating our tournament winners, I would like to congratulate all of our members for the fantastic support you all provided during the Year End Tournament. The park setups and takedowns went smoothly and quickly and there was always someone asking to help or willing to help when asked. Everyone’s understanding and support during the rain delays on Saturday and the required game modifications really showed what kind of league we are and that “Fun and Fellowship” is what we are all about. The captains were all fantastic, communicating with me and their players, providing great advice and insight and, in a few cases, accepting decisions that were not in their best interest with grace and understanding.

50/50 DRAW
Each day of the tournament we hold a 50/50 draw, with funds raised to be used to donate towards our charity. Our Season Ending Tourney 50/50 Winners were:
Friday - Mike Drexler Jr.
Saturday - Colin LaLonde
Sunday - Nick Townsley
Thanks!!
There were many, many players and umpires that lent a hand, but I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge those that consistently go beyond above and beyond:
- Ron Wilson is a main stay for set up almost every day of every tournament. It’s great to have an umpire there to help out.
- Jim Hindley and Nick Popovacki were available every morning to help out and advise.
- Dale and Andrea Latendresse are always available to lend a hand. Andrea’s love for the league is truly captured in the pictures she shoots and that adorn our web site.
- One player who’s name I did not catch brought coffee from Tim’s every morning. Whoever you are, thank you.
- Megan Barrow’s job does not start at 5 p.m. on Friday. She helps me coordinate the other bartenders, makes sure we get enough ice, and keeps me up-to-date during the tourney on what we need to keep the beer flowing. She has been invaluable.
- John Rotondo and his daughter Veronica (whom we can thank for the Moosehead and Sommerville on tap) were a great help. John is the king of 50/50 and every time I turn around, he’s offering to help.
- Carl Camilleri and Angela Musitano did a great job helping out with the 50/50 and keeping people laughing at the end of the bar. Carl also retrieved the Moosehead from Etobicoke.
- And a very special thank you to Jean Gagnon. Except for the rare time that she runs to the wash room, Jean, remains at the bunker handing out drink tickets, while the rest of us have a great time. And for those few minutes she’s in the washroom, the bunker starts to slowly descend into chaos. She is incredibly organized and reliable and, dare I say, slightly taken for granted.
If I left anyone out (it inevitably happens), I apologize. Whoever you are, know that I appreciate what you did.
When I became the tournament director last year, I was told on more than one occasion that it was a thankless job. Yet, at the end of the tournament yesterday, I received more thank you handshakes and hugs than I can count. I am very proud to a member of this league, and for however long I play and whatever role I take on, I will always remember yesterday as one of the best I ever had.
Regards - Mike Ciccone |
