Doug Haines who was very good friends has left this note for us

"I'm starting my 24th year this upcoming baseball season with BOSL. Over the years, like many in this league I have met many great people and have been very fortunate to become very close friends with some of them.

Many of you know one of my closest friends Russell Ross. Unfortunately Russell lost his fight against cancer. For those of you who didn't know him, he was the most talented person I have ever met. An amazing artist at so many levels and whether it was golf, baseball and especially horseshoes, he was great at all of them.. But greatest of all he was at being a husband to the love of his life Sue and a friend to who always treated you like you were family.

If you are lucky enough to have a friend like Russell in your life, give them a hug and let him know it cause when you can't anymore..."

Viewing will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral home and service will be Friday at 1:30.
Full details can be found here at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home

mike silvaMike Silva (2019)

August 12, 2019

Mike Silva (Chilli) was a former captain and player in BOSL! He passed away aug 11. For those who were not aware, Mike was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma at the age of 48. What started out as a pretty good outlook, needing only 3 rounds of chemo and 35 rounds of radiation quickly took a turn for the worse. The cancer spread to Mike’s bones and he was undergoing another 4 rounds of chemo with the hopes of maintaining the cancer and keeping it from spreading. His battle with cancer was long and difficult.

He registered to play this season but his physical limitations didn’t allow him to do so. We are asking that all Captains have their teams line up on their own baseline before games tonight and tomorrow to observe a moment of silence in Chilli's honour.

Mike had a very distinctive laugh and was loved by all in BOSL. His close friend Dave Geneau organized the BOSL family to attend a benefit to try and help out the family and raise his spirits. Thanks to all of you that managed to attend and/or donate. Mike leaves behind 4 children, 2 in their early 20’s: Kennedy and Braeden, an 8 year old son named Jackson and a 4 year old daughter named Addison and his beautiful wife Jenn. We miss you already Mike!

Visitation will be at McKersie Kocher funeral home in Milton on Wednesday August 14 from 2-4 and 7-9. A celebration of his life will take place Thursday August 15 at 2pm at McKersie Kocher funeral home with a reception to follow at Milton Bible Church (where his benefit was). Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us and supported us in anyway. In the words of Jackson and Addison “cancer sucks” > READ MORE

Gary WrightGary Wright (2019)

August 3, 2019

With great sadness we announce the passing of one of our fathers of BOSL - Gary Wright.

In the late 1970's there was interest in summer activities by some of the players in the BOHC. The idea of a baseball league soon emerged. A sign up sheet was posted in the BOHC lounge (Hectors) on Morris Drive. In 1980 the league was started by Gary Wright, a Stelco employee along with co-worker Andy Smith. According to Andy, 14 players making up two teams were the first members of the league in the summer of 1980. The season lasted a couple of weeks and was played on two diamonds in Burlington. The original season was played following Mushball rules (no glove and using a soft mush ball) but after several broken fingers it was decided to adopt traditional baseball play using a baseball glove for the following season.

Following the first season, interest picked up and it quickly grew to four teams and then to eight teams soon after. Gary Wright founded the Ladies Slo-Pitch League shortly afterward with similar success.

Jeff ArmourJeff Armour (2018)

December 24, 2018

Our sincere condolences to Pauline Armour and family for the recent passing of husband Jeff Armour. Jeff was very well known and well liked by many in the BOHC and BOSL. Jeff had registered to play next year in his 12th season of Slo-Pitch as a 2nd and 1st baseman and was currently the 1st-place goalie in the grey division of Oldtimers Hockey. Jeff was a valuable volunteer helping our BOHC advertising committee each year getting sponsors. He was an athlete and a gentleman in both leagues and will be sadly missed. > READ MORE

Our BOSL family lost another friend today. For those of you that didn’t know him he was the kindest, nicest man, one hell of a teammate and a past League President. Our deepest sympathies goes out to his family, friends and loved ones.

Paul joined BOSL 22 years ago having won his Bob Brown award in 2005. Paul served as a Board of Director from 1993 to 1999 and as President of the leaguefor one term. Always a candidate for Most Valuable Oldtimer and our Oldtimer of the Year Award, Paul is fun to play with and against, hits anywhere and has good speed. He has a great attitude and exemplifies sportsmanship in BOSL. Paul talked me into re-joining the league when he was registration director and I'm glad he did. > READ MORE

Richard McCulloughRichard McCullough (2018)

June 25, 2018

Our BOSL family lost a good one today. Our heart felt thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and teammates of Rich McCullough. (Ron Evinou)

I got the pleasure of seeing him through the summer for slowpitch and through the winter coaching hockey. He is a true gentleman and a class act, he will be missed (Kevin Elkins)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Rich on June 25, 2018. Devoted husband to Suzie, loving father to Blaze and RJ and stepfather to René and brother to Caroline. Rich will be dearly missed by his family and countless friends whose lives he touched. His undeniable sense of humour, infectious laugh and warm smile followed him everywhere he went, whether it was at the community hockey rink or the baseball diamond where he devoted so much time and effort to the Burlington Old Timers League. He always brightened everyone’s day. His love for hockey and passion to support his community was evident as a longstanding Burlington City Rep referee for the Burlington City Rep Eagles. He will be immensely missed but never forgotten with love in our hearts. As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burlington City Rep Eagles or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
